HEART is the advocate for the "underdog" whether feline or canine, fur or feather.
Since HEART was formed in 1984, we have saved the lives of thousands of animals!

URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES!!
HEART does not have a shelter facility and relies on volunteer foster homes.
It's true that no one person can save them all - but if you can make a difference in the life of even one animal,
your contribution is invaluable!! For more information visit our Foster Program page.

COMPANION CATS FOR SENIORS

Many senior citizens would benefit from the company of a pet but avoid animal companionship because of the thought "what would happen to my pet if something happens to me" or the cost of pet ownership.

Our Companion Cats for Seniors program is designed to give older cats the opportunity to be placed in a loving home. It matches older cats (6+ years) with qualified senior citizens. Older cats don't ask for much -– just a warm place to sleep, good meals, and plenty of love!! Both senior and cat benefit from a loving companion.

  • There is no adoption fee!!
  • HEART pays for the cat’s annual vet visits, vaccines, and other medical needs.
  • For seniors who are unable to get out and about, HEART can help transport the cat to the vet.
  • Should the senior become unable to care for their pet it is returned to HEART.
  •

What will happen to your pet if you are no longer able to care for it? Who will take care of your pet if you can’t? Older folks need to carefully consider if adopting a young cat is in the best interest of the animal.

To an older cat, a companion that dotes on them and spends lots of time allowing them to sit on laps or lay on beds is an ideal home. You’ll

Older cats are quiet companions with well-developed manners. If "serenity" is your lifestyle, you'll be better off with an older cat. They are calmer and less inclined to exhibit unpredictable behavior.

Are you looking for a lap-cat with whom to cuddle on the couch? Pick a sweet-faced older cat with an established personality that will be more than happy to curl up on the couch and watch your favorite shows on TV.

You'll be delighted with the companionship of an older cat. They have lots of love and affection to share!! For the abandoned, forgotten, and heartbroken older cat, you just might be their last chance to have the love and warmth of a home where they can live out their years in comfort.
